Ms. Taylor, a former member of the Farmville Arts Society, began studying oil painting in 1967 under the direction of local artists Clara Flanagan and Dan Morgan.
After working for the Pitt County Schools and as a photographer for The Farmville Enterprise, Kay returned to art full-time. Inspired by a six week trip to South Africa, she photographed a variety of animals on game drives and completed several paintings of animals in their habitats.
